Earlier this year, the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve began an initiative to increase conservation revenue through sustainable tourism. The strategy was created through a joint effort of the commercial lodges within the Timbavati. The Timbavati Conservation Levies were increased as a means to provide the reserve with a more significant income from commercial tourism. This came at a time when security costs to combat wildlife crime had exponentially increased, as wilderness areas were under greater threat than ever before.
An update on the strategy
Now that nearly four months has passed, how successful has it been? Well, very, as recent figures show that revenues from Timbavati Conservation Levies exceeded the budget by more than 41%. Much of this revenue goes to the Timbavati Wildlife Protection Programme’s anti-rhino poaching initiative, which is focused on effectively detecting and deterring incursions. Watch this heart-warming video below to find out a little bit more about the passion that goes into this initiative.
PR Lab is extremely proud to be working with such a passionate organisation.
