Known for its funny and quirky advertising campaigns and graphics, it only seemed appropriate that the world’s oldest clothing brand Fruit of the Loom who predates the invention of light bulbs, cars and telephones, would submerge itself in the growing South African comedy scene.
The ObviouZly Armchair Theatre situated in Observatory Cape Town is heralded as the oldest comedy club in South Africa. Born in 1999, The Armchair Theatre became a place where today’s top comedians first started their careers, spending hours in front of bar and restaurant-goers and locals to refine their skills and cement their names in the industry.
Years later an almost forgotten landmark is slowly being rejuvenated and revitalized thanks to the support of Fruit of the Loom.
Comments MD of Bertuzzi Distribution Heinrich Reynecke, “Start Happy, the tagline of Fruit of the Loom, together with its quick wit and quirky advertising campaigns have made it a no brainer to partner with stand up comedy. The comedy scene in South Africa is growing at a phenomenal rate and what better way to start than with the ‘home’ of South African comedy – The ObviousZly Armchair Theatre.”
Add’s Gino Fernandez, Manager and Comedian at ObviouZly Armchair,”
I am excited to see such a great brand take an interest in the production of Stand up Comedy in Cape Town, and I believe Fruit of the Loom will do so much more for comedy and comedians due to its versatility, fun nature and international footprint.”
